Child
Rights Programming (CRP) identifies children as holders
of Human Rights and also defines good practices for working with
children. "It is a framework for the analysis, planning, implementation
and monitoring and evaluation of all relief and development work with
children" (Save the Children). The International Rights Instruments
provide a framework for Child Rights Programming; however, it goes much
beyond.
While Child Rights-Based
Approaches to Programming is a new area for us; more empowerment and
ownership on the part of the stakeholders are expected results of the
new approaches. CRP will also bring in better business practices and
stronger partnerships with others working in the field.
How
will we implement Child Rights Programming?
It's less what we do than how we do it!!
Rights-based programming does not mean that everything CCDT does must
change. Many of our policies and programs are consistent with the aims
of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the
Convention on the Rights of the Child. Adopting Child Rights
Programming can build our capacity, accountability, and sustainability,
in continuing to fight for child rights.
Activities:
Research
and resource
building on Child Rights, Rights-Based Programming, and Human Rights
Education and Participatory Practices.
Capacity Building of
staff and stakeholders on Child Rights, Rights-Based Programming,
Participatory Methods.
Developing tools for
participatory project design, implementation, evaluation and monitoring.
Organizational policy
changes that better reflect Rights-based thinking.
Partnership building and
networking with other organizations.
A Youth Forum to provide
a platform for youth from all of our projects to voice their views and
concerns regarding the issues that affect their lives as well as CCDT's
projects.
A city-wide Child Rights
Campaign, which would build an alliance of NGOs committed to child
rights to advocate for public awareness as well as policy change at the
government level to fulfill child rights.
