In June 2005, CCDT started
the Vocational Training & Rehabilitation Programme (VTRP) with
women who were HIV positive. The programme now also works with women
from low socioeconomic areas. It encourages disadvantaged women to
create handcrafted products which are then sold. A large part of the
proceeds is given to the women, with a small percentage reserved for
administration and the purchase of raw material.
The overall objective of the
programme is to encourage economic independence for disadvantaged and
marginalised women that will lead to improved self-esteem and a life of
dignity.
